How to Survive Stay At Home Motherhood

It’s been almost a year since my son was born but I am still adjusting to the fact that I am a Mom. I am also still adjusting to the fact that I am a full time stay-at-home-Mom. Once I finished grad school I figured I would build a successful career by the time a baby came along and they would go to day care while I continued to said successful career. Well, that isn’t even close to how things have played out and some days it can still be a hard pill to swallow. At the same time it has been such a blessing to have the option of staying at home with my little boy and watching him change and grow on a daily basis. I know when I look back on my life I will cherish these memories.

That being said, Moms still need to have something for themselves. We give up so much of our bodies, brain capacity and time to our babies (whether you work or are a SAHM) that it is so important for us to take time and recharge. That is what this blog has been for me and all of the opportunities that have come with it. Most recently, I attented a collaborative event with incredibly talented photographers and bloggers called Catch Me At Luxe the Original Shoot Out. This was literally a real world ‘America’s Next Top Model’ moment where the bloggers were the models for the photographers to try new styles and techniques with. To say it was fun would be an understatement and the best part (besides the amazing photos that were taken) was the new group of inspiring women I was able to meet and work with.
“Always, always, always believe in yourself because if you don’t then who will, sweetie?”
Not only did I get to have fun jumping on a bed and drinking some cocktails (p.s. the “wine” was just sprite and grenadine) but I get to have access to some really great photos that I can use for my social media camaigns. This type of event is a bloggers dream because the content is so varied and completely different than anything else I could have produced on my own in my house or backyard. It was held at this really cool hotel called The Graduate Tempe in the suburbs of Phoenix which had such a fun vibe. I mean where else can you find a place with walls full of bright colors or plastered in maps with such beautiful surroundings? If your a fellow blogger sitting at home reading this and working on a new blog post at the same time while your little one naps (which is literally exactly what I am doing) thinking to yourself how awesome this sounds- check out the Catch Me At Luxe events and see if there will be one by you soon! If not, see if there is something similar going on in your area, or better yet, set one up yourself! Please trust me when I say you will be incredibly thankful that you did! Now, if your a fellow SAHM feeling a little trapped check out my list below on how I am working on surviving the stay at home Mom life!
This is something I have been trying to set up since my son was born. I had a few massages during my pregnancy because my SI joint pain was so bad but have yet to get one since. Self care often falls to the wayside, especially when a family is adjusting to relying on a single income which generally goes towards the groceries and home improvement. But trust me when I say, self care is just as important because without it you start to lose yourself. I have recently started to feel the consequences of lacking on some self care and when that happens everyone in the family feels it. So go get your mani-pedi, have your spa day, attend a yoga class or get your sweat on at the gym! Whatever it is for you, find it and make it a priority because taking care of yourself affects how you take care of everyone else.

Spend time with friends
Getting out of the house and having an adult conversation can sometimes feel like a chore in and of itself, trust me I get it! Sometimes a date with the couch and your Netflix account is all the energy you can muster at the end of a long week. But turning your Mom brain off and enjoy some good girl talk can do wonders for your mental state. Having recently just relocated to the other side of the country my opportunities for friend time is currently pretty limited but hopefully some of the women I met at the Catch Me At Luxe Shoot Out will help change that!! So take off your Mom pants, grab a cocktail or go to a chick flick and remember who are as a women!
Since having my son, my body has gone through so many changes. I have always been active and fitness has always been important in my life. While it has been a little more difficult to fit a workout into my schedule I have really been trying hard to do something active every day. Just like my favorite Legally Blonde quote says “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.” Well, I’m not worried about the shooting my husband part (most of the time :P) I do get that feeling of accomplishment and confidence after finishing a good workout! Not only that, I have made some pretty drastic adjustments to my diet as far as carb and sugar intake goes and I now weigh less than I have in over 7 years! Who said you couldn’t get your body back after having a baby? While sure it looks a little different by treating it right it has rewarded me with

Wine a Little (Or alot)
This is a personal preference and I actually don’t drink a whole lot. Don’t get me wrong I love me some girl time over a bottle of wine but I have so far been incredibly lucky and the first year of my son’s life has not been overly traumatizing. I know as he gets older this is very likely to change which means I will brace myself and stock up on a few bottles! As we grow our family in the future I’m sure this will also become more of a part of my daily routine and a glass here or there is totally okay! You know they say red wine is even good for your heart! Unfortunately I am into sweet whites or hard cider but to each their own.
If you had plans or dreams of things you wanted to do before your babies were born, don’t let those dreams die. Whether you wanted to be a yoga instructor, wedding photography or start a blog- don’t let the title Mom stop you! Even if you are on a small budget there are ways to do it! Sure they sometimes require a little bit more work (or a lot) but if you want it bad enough there is a way to do it! Blogging actually isn’t something I ever even considered in the past. But being my own boss and having a business of my own has always been something that I found really intriguing but I didn’t know where to even begin. This blog has given me the start I needed to boost my confidence and open my world up to the opportunites that are out there. I am currently in the process of writing my own Online Course about how I lost 23

pounds of pure baby weight in two months called The Keto Inspired LifeStyle. And I am also working on putting together a line of workout shirts and clothes with a friend. So whatever it is go out and get it!
